Jaw Pain and Sinus Allergies |
Sometimes the pain that comes from sinus allergies can seem to gravitate out to other parts of your head including your jaw bone. When sinus pain reaches this level of severity, it is often referred to as sinusitis. But sinusitis can be the result of causes other than sinus allergies such as a virus, a fungus or a bacteria that inflames the membrane of the sinus cavity. When your sinus allergy does create jaw pain, it can literally keep you from smiling, talking or wanting to eat because of the discomfort caused by that pain.
It is quite easy for a sinus allergy to accelerate into a sinus infection that can easily cause pain in other parts of the head including the jaw. When the sinus problem inflames the maxillary sinus cavity, the outcome is often a case of sinusitis that can generate a lot of discomfort. It is not difficult to diagnose your jaw pain as the result of a sinus allergy because other symptoms will always evidence themselves as well including sneezing, a runny nose, a sinus headache and tender muscles in the face. In fact, if the sinus allergy face and jaw pain gets too severe, the sufferer can experience pain if their face is even touched. For men, this means that the simple act of shaving can become torture.
Where the pain in the jaw occurs is another way to tell if the problem is the result of a sinus allergy or if you have some other problem such as dental decay that is causing your jaw to ache. The maxillary sinus cavity will only impact the upper part of the jaw. So if the jaw pain you are having is anywhere else in your jaw and you do not experience the other symptoms of a sinus allergy, it might be wise to see your doctor or dentist because your problem is not coming from your sinus allergy symptoms.
There no special treatment to use to address jaw pain related to a sinus allergy episode. If you have had success with over the counter drugs in fighting other sinus allergy symptoms, that should also help with your jaw pain as well. You might find ways to deal with the inflammation of the sinus tissue which will cause the discomfort along with eliminating the sinus allergy symptoms.
Sometimes taking a hot shower or positioning your face over a steaming cup of coffee or tea allows that steam to go into the sinuses and relieve some of that tension. Drinking caffeinated beverages is helpful to some people too because the caffeine has a tendency to dry out the sinuses which reduces the pain coming form sinus allergy inflammation.
The ultimate solution to jaw pain associated with sinus allergies is to learn to avoid the causes of your allergy symptoms. By knowing when the causes of your allergy episodes will affect you, you can avoid contact which will keep sinus allergy symptoms from making you so miserable. If your sinus allergies are the result of hay fever, you can block them from entering your breathing apparatus by rinsing the nostrils with salt water or lining them with Vaseline jelly.
If the jaw pain and other sinus allergy symptoms become severe, consult with your doctor or seek the advice of a specialist such as an allergist or an immunologist. If the symptoms become dangerous, allergy shots may be prescribed to eventually rid you of your sinus allergy problem entirely. But let your medical professionals make that call because that degree of treatment for sinus allergies is not for everybody.
