Tips on Dealing with Your Cat Allergy

Seeing an allergist is not mandatory when it comes to determining whether you are cat allergic or not. For instance, you should know that the allergic reaction is going to appear as soon as you enter a room with cats so it will not take you too much to understand that you are allergic to cats. Here are the main common symptoms for you to recognize and determine whether you have an allergy to cats or not. Watery eyes, hives, uncontrollable sneezing, wheezing and eczema can be triggered by your contact to the saliva or dander of a cat. Dander can also be found on various surfaces you use for eating or sleeping.

You can treat your symptoms by paying a visit to the doctor and get prescribed with the necessary medications that will alleviate your symptoms. But you can also use some simple tips in order to alleviate your allergy, especially if you have a mild or moderate form.

  • Start with getting an quality air purifier that comes with an efficient HEPA filter.
  • Next, you will have to keep your pet out of the room where you sleep or where you are likely to spend most of your time. Make sure that you contain your cat just to particular areas of your home.
  • You must vacuum the carpets by using a HEPA Vacuum cleaner and you will have to do this at least two times per week.

Other strategies that can alleviate your moderate or mild form of cat allergy include applying anti-allergy and cat safe spray or wipes right to your cat's fur. Go for sprays or wipes that are recommended by your veterinarian. Next, you should use leather or vinyl furniture instead of going for upholstered. Carpets are to be replaced with some quality hard floors in order to prevent severe allergy attacks. The air-con filters must be cleaned as well and you will have to do this on a regular basis. Do the same with your duct work and furnace. The danger particles can be eliminated by using a quality air purifier.

Another tip for you to follow is to use hot water in order to have your bed linens washed on a regular basis. Pillows and mattresses should be wrapped with some plastic covers in order to prevent cat dander from settling in your bedding. Distilled water is to be used in order to wash your pet on a monthly basis.

Keep in mind that you must treat your cat allergy as soon as possible – you have to do this in order to prevent further weakening of your own immune system. Remember that prolonging your allergy treatment is going to lead to other severe problems that include ear or sinus infections, bronchitis or asthma. It is worth mentioning that an untreated allergy can even lead to life threatening conditions unless you take proper care of it and have it treated with the right medications.

Once you notice that you are experiencing severe symptoms on a regular basis and they don't go away quickly enough, you must consult your health care provider in order to find out more about what is causing you such symptoms and what is the appropriate treatment for it.
