What Parents Should Know about Baby Allergies
What Parents Should Know About Baby AllergiesBabies get a lot of little illnesses.  For the most part, tender loving care and the ability to consult with a good pediatrician as well as the wisdom of other parents can help new parents deal with what seems to be a nonstop health issues with a newborn baby.

In many ways, some health issues should be expected in a young child.  The immune system of a baby does not arrive ready to defend the infant from every possible enemy.  So those first months of a baby's life are the time that the immune system learns how to ward off illness.  The result is the baby will suffer with a number of short term health woes that will pass quickly because the immune system adapts and begins to do it's job in the little one.

This doesn’t mean that parents are not being proper in paying attention to each and every rash, stomach or bowel irregularity or runny nose in their child.  In addition to being mindful of the possibility of illness, it pays to learn if the problem that you are seeing in your baby is the result of a baby allergy.  If you dismiss the symptoms you witness as a cold or some other common infant illness and it turns out to be a baby allergy, your efforts at treatment will be frustrated.

One good indication that there are baby allergies present in the health picture of the little one is that symptoms simply refuse to go away.  A cold or some other short-term illness will pass with time.  Baby allergies, like adult allergies, are persistent.  It is an appropriate part of learning to be a good parent to learn the differences between a common cold and a baby allergy that your infant may be suffering with.  The treatment will be much different and by understanding those distinctions, you can take the proper action and see your child recover more quickly.

Baby allergies are the result of the little one's immune system making some mistakes.  It is well known that the immune system is designed to attack germs and illness to keep us healthy.  A baby allergy occurs when the immune system mistakes something that is not an illness for an enemy and attacks it causing an allergic reaction.  The outcome is your baby might be dealing with an allergic outbreak that looks very much like he or she is sick.  But the treatment of baby allergies is much different than dealing with an infant version of the cold or some other sickness.

Even that simple knowledge of what a baby allergy might look like can give parents the edge on dealing with the kinds of problems that make our young ones uncomfortable.  If the thing that triggered the baby allergy is food related, a change of diet may be all that is needed.  If it is a reaction to pollen or pet hair, medication or a change in the home environment may be the cure.  The key is to identify the real cause of the problem and if it is a baby illness, to take the appropriate action so the cure is appropriate to the symptoms.
