What Hay Fever Symptoms Feel Like
hay fever symptomsIf you suffer with allergies and hay fever, the arrival of spring brings mixed emotions. Like everyone else, you are excited for the flowers and the wonderful weather and the promise of summer time fun.  But hay fever symptoms can steal away much of that joy because of the miserable symptoms that you will experience with each fresh allergy episode.

One problem that people who do have allergies have in sorting out hay fever symptoms is that they resemble illnesses that impact the sinuses and drag down your health and your ability to perform. Many of the hay fever symptoms resemble a cold or a flu and it is easy to treat them that way.  The problem is that if you diagnose hay fever symptoms incorrectly, then your approach to treatment may be all wrong.

The hay fever symptoms that can disguise themselves as an illness include the runny nose, the headache, the sneezing and swelling around the eyes and the nausea which results from the drainage from hay fever inspired stopped up sinus cavities. Along with these obvious hay fever symptoms, there is often an associated sense of fatigue, some irritability, a feeling of being sluggish and slowed reaction time because everything about how your face and head work has been disrupted.  In every way, these hay fever symptoms are troublesome and they can cause a serious interruption to your work or what you are doing with your day.

One difference between a cold, the flu and hay fever symptoms is that, despite the name, there is generally no fever associated with hay fever. The title "hay fever" is misleading in that regard because this particular allergy might be caused by pollen or mold or some other outdoor allergens.  But it is rarely caused by hay. When you have regular episodes of hay fever symptoms, you can begin to recognize when they are beginning to take over again. As unpleasant as that is, if those hay fever symptoms get you moving on using the treatments you know will work, that is a good thing.

It is wise to use your medications and make the lifestyle changes you need to make to stop the progress of hay fever symptoms in the early stages.  For one thing, if you can minimize the impact of hay fever symptoms on your health, they are much less capable of ruining whatever activity you are involved with.  Moreover, hay fever can cause more serious health problems such as asthma or a sinus infection.  So taking control over your hay fever problems is the best way of learning to live with the problem.

The fact that a hay fever allergy is not curable is probably one of the aspects of hay fever symptoms that is most disturbing.  As a hay fever sufferer, there is not "getting over" hay fever symptoms. You can minimize the hay fever symptoms when they begin to take over with prescription medications or other lifestyle choices you can make to reduce the impact of the symptoms. For example, sometimes a good hot shower or a hot cup of coffee or tea will reduce the inflammation of the sinuses and allow your head to clear of the allergen that is causing your hay fever symptoms.

The most effective way to stopping hay fever symptoms before they start is to learn everything about your allergy and how to avoid the triggers that put you into a hay fever episode. The heart of any hay fever problem is an allergic reaction to something that sets off those troublesome symptoms. Just like any allergy, there is generally a specific thing that causes your hay fever symptoms to act up.  Don’t assume that your hay fever is a reaction to pollen or some other allergen that is a common allergic trigger for your allergy.

Take the time to find out specifically what causes your hay fever symptoms. When you know the cause of your allergy problems, you can take action to avoid being exposed to that allergen.  When you have an effective plan to avoid being exposed to the thing that sets off your hay fever symptoms, you can reduce or even eliminate how hay fever can disrupt your life.  And that is the best hay fever treatment there is.
