The Connection between Infant Allergies, Asthma and Infant Thrush |
While it is not an exceptionally common problem, some babies develop a health problem called infant thrush. In lay terms, infant thrush is a yeast infection that develops in the mouth of babies. If the problem gets out of control, infant thrush can get into the baby's mouth tissue. This particular yeast infection can also be a problem for breastfeeding moms because the yeast infection can invade the mother's breast ducts and nipples. If that happens, the yeast infection can start being passed back and forth from mother to baby, which makes it much more difficult to treat. In many cases, infant thrush can represent a painful condition that is hard to cure.
Of a greater concern, however are studies into the effects of infant thrush that indicate that it may be a contributing factor in a number of other infant health problems including asthma and infant allergies. Traditionally pediatricians saw infant thrush as a health problem that must be addressed in the life of a newborn but not a serious health emergency. But modern findings are showing a link between infant thrush and other health problems babies have like asthma and allergies.
The issue that can lead to an infant thrush outbreak that can lead to more serious health issues is that the yeast in the baby's system represents an imbalance in the system that must be corrected. However, the traditional natural and medication oriented treatments for infant thrush often focus on killing the appearance of the yeast infection in the mouth without dealing with the cause of that infection in the first place. The result is that after the treatment, a yeast problem an easily reoccur because the treatment dealt with the symptoms, not the cause of the yeast problem.
The presence of infant thrush in the baby's mouth is a concern. But the real danger happens when the yeast begins to grow within the body of the child. Candida albicans, the medical term for this kind of yeast infection can put out a lot of toxic chemicals. While these chemicals are organic, they can cause a huge diversity of health problems for the baby. Some serious conditions that have been tied to the presence of candida albicans in an infant's body include infant allergies, asthma, learning disorders, behavior problems and even autism. That is why many up to date pediatricians look into the yeast levels in a baby's system as part of a diagnosis for infant allergies or many of these other serious health syndromes in babies.
It is when yeast cells take a turn toward the baby's digestive system and cause the baby's intestinal walls to allow particles that are too large to get through that a condition known as "leaky gut syndrome" can develop. When the normal functionality of the infant's intestinal system is compromised like that, the door is open for infant allergies, and other health problems.
The conclusion is that if your baby develops infant thrush problems in the mouth, do not settle for a treatment that just deals with the outbreak of the yeast infection at the mouth or skin level. A much more serious approach to infant thrush is necessary to combat the yeast development in a holistic fashion. Talk to your baby's pediatrician about designing a complete anti-yeast dietary plan so that the imbalance in the baby's system that allowed the yeast infection to develop is corrected. The only certain method of assuring that infant thrush does not incubate in your baby's intestinal system and surface again as an infant allergy, asthma or something worse is to deal the problem at its point of origin rather than just getting rid of the symptoms.
Furthermore, if you are breastfeeding your child and the infant thrush problem surfaces, make sure the treatment problem takes into consideration how mom is reacting to the yeast problem in the baby's mouth so that she does not develop a yeast problem as well and mother and child end up passing the infection back and forth to one another. By insisting on a comprehensive plan to cure infant thrush completely, many of the syndromes that can develop later because of the yeast problems will be avoided.
