Hypersensitivity Allergy Rashes
Hypersensivity Allergy RashIt seems that the incidence of allergic rashes that are being caused by contact with various chemical allergens is on the rise.  It is easy to blame the use of products that are used in the workplace and in the home that contain harsh chemicals for the rise of rashes that come from contact with some products.  But there are numerous other kinds of allergy rashes that are the result with contact with substances that would not be considered dangerous.  For medical experts in the field of allergies, these kinds of allergic rashes are often called hypersensitivity rashes.

We tend to associate the word "hypersensitive" with emotional responses people have sometimes.  But hypersensitivity when it comes to skin allergies simply means that your body is more sensitive to a particular allergen than the average person.  The medical terminology for a hypersensitivity rash falls under the category of "contact dermatitis".  This sounds pretty serious but it is an allergy problem similar to other allergic reactions and we should understand it in that context.

When you develop an allergic reaction to your skin coming in contact with a certain substance, that is a function of your immune system.  It does not mean that the cause of your allergic rash is itself bad.  Many allergens such as nickel or soap are substances that are beneficial to most people.  An allergy rash happens when your immune system becomes too sensitive, or hypersensitive to that substance and begins to treat it as a threat so there is an inflammation of the tissue around the contact point because of that flurry of defensive activity by the immune system.

What might be surprising is that about 10% of people who see a doctor about a rash problem turn out to be suffering with a hypersensitivity allergy rash.  What is also troubling is that your skin and immune system may suddenly develop a hypersensitivity allergy rash to a substance that you have had in your life for years.  You might develop a significant allergy rash to a substance that is commonly used in your family while nobody else in the family develops the problem.  As is true of many areas of allergy research, the why and how hypersensitivity allergy rashes are developed are still mysteries.

The development of a hypersensitivity allergy rash is not an indication that we are not healthy in every other respect.  It is also not an evidence of someone who is not otherwise clean or living well.  There is no justification for judgment of the lifestyle of someone who has developed a hypersensitivity allergy rash because these kinds of allergies affect people across all social and cultural levels and lifestyles.  But when you or your doctor come to the conclusion that the skin conduction you have is a hypersensitivity allergy rash, it will take a serious effort and some amount of luck to figure out what allergen is causing the trouble.

The location of the allergy rash is a good clue.  If an allergy rash begins to occur regularly after you began using a certain product like a shampoo, a new kind of make up, a lotion or even a new kind of soap, those items could be considered primes suspects for what is causing your hypersensitivity allergy rash.  Any chemical you come in contact with routinely at work or at home could suddenly become an allergen and cause the problem.  If the allergy rash is in some specialized location like around the ears, that might be a clue that the hypersensitivity allergy rash is coming from earrings or the use of a cell phone.

There are certain types of allergy rashes that are common that you should review first to see if they are the cause of your problem.  Nickel, poison ivy, products that contain dyes, make up products and cleaning products are all good suspects that may be setting off your hypersensitivity allergy rash.

The process of diagnosing the problem yourself can take some time.  To find out if a suspected item is causing your allergy rash, simply eliminate that item from your daily life and pay attention to whether the allergy rash clears up.  If it does, you can confirm the problem by conducting a controlled exposure to the allergen at a small spot on your skin.  If that spot develops the hypersensitivity allergy rash, you will know what is causing the problem.

It is always smart to consult with your doctor or to see a dermatologist for more information about a hypersensitivity allergy rash.  He or she can also help devise a plan for testing your skin to try to determine the source of the problem.  While some allergy testing can get quite complicated and uncomfortable, at least make yourself aware of your options for dealing with your allergy rash problem.  Then you can make an informed decision about how to resolve this unpleasant allergic symptom once and for all.
