Skin allergies are among the most common skin conditions. They are caused by an hypersensitive immune system after direct exposure to particular substances that are “recognized” as being harmful. As a direct result of the exposure, the immune system will be triggered to release antibodies in order to combat these so-called harmful substances. This release will cause specific adverse reactions in the rest of the cells. There are 3 main types of skin allergies: Atopy Inhaled Dermatitis, Food Related Allergies and Contact Dermatitis. Such skin allergies may be caused by a wide range of food ingredients and additives that include chicken, eggs, pork, fish, poultry and dairy products, soy and preservatives. For instance, contact dermatitis may be categorized as occurring as soon as your skin comes into a direct contact with a particular allergen. In this case, you will experience a red swelling, soon after touching fauna or flora such as ragweed or poison ivy. However, skin allergies are among the least irritating ones. Still, once they occur, they may interfere with your daily routine. This is the main reason why you should learn how to manage such a skin allergy by understanding this condition and finding out more about the exact allergen that triggers your adverse reactions. Plus, you will have to take really good care of your body and skin. Identifying the exact allergen that causes your skin allergy in order to eliminate it from your environment is paramount. There are more than 3,000 allergens that may trigger skin reactions – some of them are even natural substances such as certain fruits. Another trigger that may cause skin allergies is latex. Even if it starts as natural, latex is later combined with proteins during its manufacturing process. For instance, latex gloves may trigger an allergic reaction once a person suffering from latex allergy wears them. The best way to avoid this is by using plastic or vinyl gloves instead of the ones made from latex. Nickel allergy is another common skin allergy. Nickel can be found in jewelry, coins and certain cosmetics. A person suffering from nickel allergy must avoid this substance . If you are suffering from a skin allergy, you will have to do your best and take proper care of your skin. For instance, one of the easiest remedies around is to keep your fingernails smooth and short in order to minimize any possible damage that may be caused by scratching. Moisturizing is another vital aspect when it comes to preventing skin allergies. By moisturizing your skin in the proper way, you can prevent it from drying out. However, a moisturizer might not be enough and you will also need to use a corticosteroid cream prescribed by your health care provider in order to sooth inflammations caused by the allergen. You must avoid taking hot showers and baths because they will dry out your skin. Instead, you should go for long soaks in warm baths – you may also add oatmeal or baking soda to your bath water beacuse they are really effective soothing agents. A pH neutral or mild soap is to be used and you should avoid bubble baths as they may aggravate your skin condition. After bathing, you should try and dry your skin in a gentle way and have some moisturizer applied. Photo - Flickr, http://www.flickr.com/photos/mckln/3548467519/
