Going After that Allergy Rash with Topical Steroids
Topical Steroid Allergy Rash TreatmentUnlike an illness, a skin allergy cannot be cured.  The best we can hope for when an allergy rash erupts is to reduce the pain and itchiness and speed healing of the rash.  So, while we cannot defeat an allergy rash problem once and for all, we can control it with the help of medical science, good hygiene and good medication.

The skin is a very robust organ.  But when it becomes irritated because of an allergy rash, the itchiness can dominate your thoughts and make it difficult to function at work or while dealing with your other daily responsibilities.  As is true of most allergies, the best defense against an allergy rash is knowledge about what caused the allergic reaction and then avoiding that allergen.

When you do get an allergic rash, taking very good care of your skin is job one.  Keeping the rash clean and dry is a great way to reduce the itch of that allergy rash.  It is best to not expose your skin to harsh detergents or soaps that have perfume in them.  Also, think about the clothing that will come in contact with the allergic rash area.  Avoid wool or latex fabrics and think about the detergents you use to wash those garments so you can keep harsh chemicals away from your skin as much as possible.

To take your assault on an allergic rash to the next level, there are steroid creams that can be applied to the rash.  Because these topical treatments contain steroids, it is very important to only use them after consultation with your doctor.  A topical steroid cream will also contain antibiotics, coal tar and antihistamines.  If your doctor does prescribe a topical steroid cream for your allergy rash, only use the recommended dosage.  If it does not seem to work, do not use more than is prescribed.  Give it more time to work and if it is not effective, report that information back to your doctor.  Don't get creative with a steroid product.

Topical steroid crèmes are for external use only.  For some kinds of allergy rash problems such as eczema, topical steroids have been very effective.  Depending on how bad your allergy rash problem is, your doctor will decide the strength of the medication.  If your doctor suggests a mild hydrocortisone treatment, you can usually get that at the drug store without a prescription.  For more potent dosage topical steroid crèmes, you may need a prescription from your doctor.

Again, it is wise to keep in mind that even a powerful topical steroid cream does not cure an allergy rash.  But a good treatment can dramatically reduce the irritation and itch of the affected area and take down the inflammation and redness of the rash.  With that relief, your skins natural recuperative powers can kick in and the area of the allergy rash can heal more quickly.  By keeping the area clean and then following up the treatment with skin creams that do not have perfumes in them, you can do a lot to help your skin recover quickly from an allergic rash.
