Taking Allergy Season in Stride
Seasonal AllergiesThe most important thing to keep in mind when considering how to deal with allergies is that some allergies are seasonal.  The worst seasonal allergen for most people is pollen.  It is everywhere in the spring because so many insects who carry it on their wings.  In the fall, pollen comes down with the leaves and nuts.

If your seasonal allergies are severe, perhaps you should see an allergy specialist to test which allergens are bothering you the most.  Once the problem allergen is discovered your doctor can advise you on how to proceed.

Medication might be prescribed or the simple idea of staying away from the allergen could be the best course of action for you.  Most doctors recommend that you do not simply take over the counter medication during this time.

Your doctor can help determine whether you should use a prescription allergy medicine or if over the counter medicines are the best thing for you.  There are plenty of ways to take your allergy medication nowadays.  You can get a nasal spray, a pill, and even drops to help with any allergy symptoms. Be sure you do not overdose on your medications, either. Take them only as prescribed by your physician.

Try keeping all your windows closed on your house and while you are out in your car.  If the pollen count is particularly high on a given day, then stay inside. If grass is bothersome to you, then pay a lawn service to do the mowing or perhaps have your spouse or children do it, if they are old enough.  Wash your hands and eyes after going outside to get any remaining pollen off of them.

Make sure you have an air filter on your air conditioner and heating unit.  Also, use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA air filter. You could also purchase an air purifier that will circulate the air in your home while cleaning it of allergens.

If you don’t want to avoid outdoor activities so you can enjoy time with friends and family and you also don't like the idea of taking allergy medications, there are some natural remedies for allergies.  Acupuncture, for example is a very good alternative to traditional methods for fighting allergy symptoms.

Try buying local honey.  It will have pollen from local bees in it, so you can build up your immunity to it.  Also, be sure to drink lots of water. It helps to keep you hydrated and to flush the allergens out of your system.

There are several other natural remedies you can take advantage of.  Remember to always talk to your doctor before going off of any medication. Also, if you do resort to acupuncture or buy honey, make sure you do your research.  The acupuncturist needs to be certified and an expert in the craft.  The honey needs to come from a reliable source and be sure it really is local or it will do you know well at all.

If you take the time to prepare well before allergy season comes along, getting through allergy season will go much better for you.  Prepare for spring allergies at the end of winter. Start you routine by beginning to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, beginning to faithfully take your allergy medication, and getting air filters changed. Doing all of these things early will help you feel much better later when allergy season is in full swing.

And above all, you will be the one who is taking charge of your allergy problem rather than let it be the boss of you.  And when you can manage your seasonal allergies so you don't miss out on all the fun that outdoor activities have to offer, that will make the preparation you did entirely worth the effort.
